WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the New Democrat Coalition Action Fund announced its endorsement of Lt. Governor Sabina Matos for the Special Election in Rhode Island’s First Congressional District. Sabina has a history of getting things done for Rhode Islanders. From her work to make housing more affordable to keeping communities safe and protecting Americans’ essential rights, she’s always been focused on ensuring everyone has the tools they need to succeed. As an immigrant, Sabina is dedicated to making the American Dream a reality and will continue that commitment in Congress.
“Sabina has a proven track record of delivering real results for communities across Rhode Island, and NewDems are thrilled to endorse her candidacy for Congress,” said New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster. “Sabina had the courage to run for public office as a young mom, and ever since she’s worked diligently to break down barriers and ensure Rhode Islanders have the opportunity to succeed in every aspect of their lives. There’s no question she’ll bring that same initiative to the House.”
“I know firsthand what it takes to win a tough special election, and Lt. Gov Mato's unwavering commitment to protecting Americans’ fundamental freedoms and her tireless work to improve the lives of her constituents makes her the best candidate to represent Rhode Island’s First Congressional District,” said NewDem Recruitment Co-Chair Pat Ryan. “As a NewDem, I look forward to working with Sabina in Congress to deliver for Americans across the country.”
“It’s critical that we elect members of Congress who are committed to getting things done, which is why I’m thrilled to have the support of the NewDem Action Fund and look forward to joining the coalition when I’m in Congress,” said Lt. Governor Sabina Matos. “From making healthcare more affordable, to addressing the costs of housing, to tackling the climate crisis, to prioritizing job creation – New Dems have been on the frontline of taking the most important challenges facing our communities. These are the same issues I’ve spent my career working on as President of the Providence City Council and as Rhode Island’s Lt. Governor. I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and continuing to get things done for Rhode Island with the New Dems Coalition in Congress.”
