NewDem Action Fund Endorses Janelle Bynum for Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District

State Representative Janelle Bynum is Running to Defeat GOP Incumbent Lori Chavez-DeRemer and Help Democrats Take Back the Majority in 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the New Democrat Coalition Action Fund announced its endorsement of Oregon State Representative Janelle Bynum for Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District. As an engineer, state legislator, mother of four, and successful small business owner who worked hard to put herself through school, Janelle knows and understands the challenges facing her constituents. In the Oregon State Legislature, Janelle has been a leader on the CHIPs legislation to encourage businesses to come to the state and has worked hard to pass bipartisan legislation and create economic opportunities for Oregonians. Janelle previously defeated the current GOP Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer in 2016 and 2018 races for the Oregon State House and is the candidate best positioned to defeat her again in the 2024 general election.

“Janelle has the skills, experience, and track record necessary to flip this crucial seat in 2024,” said New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster. “That’s why NewDems are excited to endorse her for Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District. Janelle has a deep understanding of her community and has been on the frontlines working to tackle the issues facing Oregonians, including lowering health care costs, protecting fundamental freedoms, and ensuring families have the tools necessary to thrive in this economy.”

“As a battleground member, I know firsthand what it takes to win a tough race. Janelle is the best candidate to turn this seat blue,” said NewDem Recruitment Co-Chair Pat Ryan. “I look forward to working with Janelle to flip this seat and deliver for Americans across the country.”

"I’m thrilled to earn this endorsement from NewDem Action Fund,” said Janelle Bynum. “As a small business owner, engineer, and legislator, I’ve delivered for Oregon by bringing people together and finding common ground. I’ll do the same in Congress, building upon our work expanding health care access, supporting local economies from Oregon City to Bend and creating more housing. Together, we’ll flip this seat and the House by defeating Lori Chavez-DeRemer — just like I’ve done twice before."
