WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, NewDem-endorsed Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan was sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives to represent Virginia’s Fourth Congressional District. Rep. Jennifer McClellan will now hold the seat previously represented by the late NewDem Rep. Don McEachin and becomes the first Black woman to represent Virginia in Congress. The New Democrat Coalition Action Fund was an early supporter of Jennifer McClellan, and her victory last month marks the third NewDem special election victory since 2021.

“I couldn’t be happier to have Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan join the New Democrat Coalition,” said New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster. “NewDems were early supporters of Jennifer McClellan and are thrilled about her place in history as she becomes the first Black woman to represent Virginia in Congress. We look forward to partnering with Jennifer McClellan to carry on NewDem Rep. McEachin’s legacy to improve our world for future generations of Americans.”

“NewDems are excited to welcome Jennifer McClellan to Congress and to our Coalition,” said Honorary NewDem Action Fund Chair Ami Bera. “Jennifer is a long-time champion for Virginia, and she will build on Rep. McEachin’s legacy of advocating for the Commonwealth in Congress. Our Members look forward to working with Congresswoman McClellan to find common sense solutions to the most pressing issues facing our nation.”

“I appreciated working with NewDem leaders during my campaign, and I look forward to working with them in Congress,” said Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan. “Like Congressman McEachin, I will serve the people of the 4th District by focusing on common-sense legislation that delivers jobs, opportunity, a lower cost of living and expanded access to health care."
