NewDems Celebrate Jennifer McClellan’s Historic Victory in the Special Election for Virginia’s Fourth Congressional District

NewDem Congresswoman-Elect Jennifer McClellan becomes first Black woman to represent Virginia in Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the New Democrat Coalition Action Fund celebrated NewDem-endorsed candidate Jennifer McClellan’s victory over her GOP opponent for Virginia’s Fourth Congressional District, a seat previously represented by NewDem Rep. Donald McEachin. Congresswoman-Elect McClellan’s victory marks the third NewDem special election victory since 2021. Previous NewDem special election victories include Shontel Brown (OH-11) and Pat Ryan (NY-19).

“The NewDem Action Fund is thrilled to congratulate Jennifer McClellan on her impressive victory in this critical special election,” said Honorary NewDem Action Fund Chair Ami Bera. “As a State Senator, Jennifer has always put her constituents first, and in Congress, I am confident she will continue that same commitment. NewDems look forward to working with Congresswoman-Elect McClellan on building a stronger, more inclusive economy, improving access to affordable health care, and creating a clean energy future for generations to come.”

“I am proud to welcome Rep-Elect Jennifer McClellan to the NewDems after her historic special election victory,” said NewDem Action Fund Recruitment Co-Chair Pat Ryan. “In the State Senate, she proved her ability to deliver big wins for her community, including protecting reproductive freedom, providing relief to workers, and leading Virginia towards a greener future. I look forward to working alongside her to advance progress and deliver results.”

“I appreciate the support from the NewDem Action Fund and NewDem leaders,” said Congresswoman-Elect Jennifer McClellan. “Like Congressman McEachin, I plan to work on common-sense legislation that delivers for the people of the 4th District, creating jobs, lowering the cost of living, and expanding access to health care for Virginians."
