NewDems Help Propel Janelle Bynum to Victory Over Far-Left Candidate with Six-Figure Independent Expenditure

The NewDem Action Fund funded a television ad that ran across the 5th District in the final days before the primary highlighting Janelle’s accomplishments and why she’s the best candidate to flip this seat in November

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, New Democrat Coalition Action Fund Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02) congratulated NewDem-endorsed candidate Janelle Bynum on her impressive primary victory in Oregon’s 5th Congressional District over Jamie McLeod-Skinner. The NewDem Action Fund endorsed Janelle in August 2023, and the NewDem’s Independent Expenditure program invested $100,000 in a television ad to help ensure Janelle won this critical primary. You can watch the ad here. Last cycle, NewDems’ Independent Expenditure program helped secure victories for Reps. Shontel Brown, Haley Stevens, and Sean Casten over their far-left progressive challengers.

“From the beginning, NewDems had no doubt that Janelle Bynum was the best candidate to represent Oregon’s 5th Congressional District and flip this key battleground seat by winning the general election,” said NewDem Action Fund Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02). “Our team worked to ensure Janelle Bynum had the support necessary to defeat far-left progressive Jamie McLeod Skinner in the primary and ultimately faceoff against Republican extremist Rep. Lori Chavez DeRemer in November. The New Dem Action Fund invests in races where we know the candidate can win and that’s exactly why we invested in Janelle Bynum. NewDems will continue to invest in races where the candidates can win the general election – and that’s NewDems.”
