ICYMI: NewDem Candidates & Members Won Big in the Most Competitive Races Across the Country

NewDems Flipped Seven seats from Red to Blue, Helped Elect 18 New Members, and Protected 21 NewDem Frontline Members

Washington, D.C. -  In the 2022 midterm elections, NewDem Members and endorsed candidates competed and won in the most competitive races across the country. As a result of the NewDem Action Fund’s efforts, including setting up its first independent expenditure to protect Members in primaries, NewDems flipped seven key seats, helped elect 18 new Members, and protected 21 NewDem Frontline Members.

Facing off against extremist, Trump-backed Republicans, NewDems emphasized the importance of working across the aisle and finding commonsense solutions to kitchen table issues. This message resonated with the American people, who ultimately rejected GOP extremism and embraced mainstream Democratic candidates.

“Once again, the NewDem Action Fund played a critical role in helping to elect and protect Members of the New Democrat Coalition,” said NewDem Action Fund Chair Brad Schneider. “Going into this election, NewDems knew the status quo wasn’t enough. That's why our Action Fund stood up our first, six-figure independent expenditure, invested in communications support to help our candidates share their message with their constituents, and helped fund critical research in campaigns across the country. Americans made it clear they want a mainstream, solutions-focused party committed to finding common ground for tackling our nation’s most pressing challenges. NewDems delivered that vision to voters during both the primary and general elections and will continue that commitment in the next Congress.”

In 2018, NewDem Members and candidates delivered Democrats the majority by flipping 32 seats blue. In 2020, NewDems held the majority and were the only ideological caucus in Congress to flip seats from red to blue. In 2022, this pattern continued, as NewDems flipped the most seats of any ideological caucus and defeated Republicans in swing districts. NewDems look forward to welcoming at least 18 New Members and 21 returning Frontline Members.
